Most of Santa Clarita knows the name Martha Aguilera. Owner of Kokolita Cakes & More, she donates to many fundraisers and at Thanksgiving feeds over 1,000 families. The number of families she feeds grows every year as does the number of volunteers to help her cook and package the meals.
A troubled childhood didn’t keep Martha from picking herself up and fulfilling her dreams. At an early age she lived a life many would hardly be able to imagine.
Martha ran away from home at the age of 16 and began living on the streets; hanging out with a “questionable crowd.” Drugs took their toll on Martha, and as a young mother, she was eventually forced to live out of her car for a time.
As a result of her lifestyle, Martha lost her car and her home. But the most painful loss was losing her relationship with her daughter. Ironically, rehab became her respite and her saving grace as she began to contemplate the path she was on. Martha has been clean ever since.
Martha is committed not just to feeding people but to “creating an awareness so more people work the core problem not just the immediate need.”
Martha says about herself, “I’m a mom, an entrepreneur, I love God, I try not to just exist but LIVE and I want to be the change.”
And yes, Martha is donating her amazing cupcakes to our first benefit concert.
Martha truly is an “Unsung Hero”.
